Fourth of July 2016

I’m usually one to go all out for every occasion, but this year I just didn’t have it in me. We usually enjoy a flag cake, red, white, and blue cupcakes, banana pudding, ribs, hamburgers, chicken, hot dogs, bratwurst, boiled seafood, potato salad, green beans, baked beans, green salad, and that’s just a small sample of what we usually have.  We wear our patriotic attire, have family and friends over, watch the fireworks display on the river, and just have a great time.

This year we enjoyed a quiet day at home.  We enjoyed steak grilled by my husband and hot dogs along with a few side items, and for dessert, a homemade pound cake, and Blue Bell Homemade Vanilla ice cream.  This is different from our usual elaborate spreads, but it was all we needed.

It is absolutely a must for me to decorate for every holiday, so in true Wendy fashion, I brought out the patriotic décor as well as some other items we use for outdoor cooking.  I usually enjoy DIY crafts, and experimenting with different recipes, but for some reason, I just wasn’t into it this year.

Much to my surprise, I enjoyed the peace and quiet this year.  It was nice to take a break from the norm, but I hope to jump back into the festivities next year.

Thank you to those who choose to serve and protect our country everyday!
